The Geelong Concert Band

As we farewell Mark Irwin off on his overseas trip this term, we welcome Jemima Bunn to conduct the Senior band and take them to the State Championships in August. Jemima is a very experienced conductor who is travelling from Melbourne each week to conduct, so it would be great if Senior band members could make an extra effort to attend rehearsals regularly. We welcome Jemima and hope that she enjoys taking the Senior Band this term.

Reherasal for all bands will begin again on Friday July 16th at the regular times. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal during term, please remember to email your apology to geelongcb@gmail.com. We hope to see all members back at rehearsal this Friday.

The GCB Senior Band will be performing in the State Championships on Saturday August 22nd at the Wendoree Performing Arts Centre. The band will be defending their Open A Grade title, so come along and show them your support. This competition will be in the afternoon / early evening however a final time has not yet been released.

The Geelong Concert Band is pleased to announce its next concert on Saturday August 29th at 7:30pm at Costa Hall. This concert will feature guest artist Tim McCallum and compere’s Reyna and Chris Hudgel. Tickets are on sale through the GCB from Friday July 24th and GPAC from Monday July 27th. Tickets cost $18 Adults, $15 Concession/Secondary/Uni Students, $10 Under 12′s and $14 for group bookings of 10+. GCB members are encouraged to purchase tickets through the band as they will require an additional ticket (at no cost) for band members to join their family in the second harlf of the concert.

Apologies for the late notice, however the GCB must CHANGE the TIME for their concert THIS SUNDAY JUNE 14th due to a clash in venue booking times. The concert will now START at 3PM at Robertson Hall, Geelong College Prep School, Minerva Rd, Newtown. The NEW REPORT TIME for Youth & Workshop Bands is 2:15pm and Senior Band 3:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door – adults $8, concession/students $5. We hope to see you at our Winter Concert.

Interested in attending a FREE concert at the magnificent COSTA HALL – well you can this Friday May 29th. Come along and listen to performances by wind bands from Belmont High School, Christian College Geelong, Clonard College, The Geelong College, The Geelong Concert Band, Kardinia International College, Newcomb Secondary College and St Joseph’s College. Entry is free and seating is unallocated, so you don’t need a ticket. Come along and support all of these Geelong wind bands. Concert Starts at 5:00pm and runs through until 9:30pm.

The Geelong Concert Band is pleased to be involved in the following concerts for the remainder of 2009:

Friday May 29th – Geelong Wind Bands Showcase at Costa Hall – starts at 5pm and runs until 9:30pm featuring Belmont High School, Newcomb Secondary College, Christian College Geelong, Clonard College, The Geelong College, Kardinia International College, St Joseph’s College and the Geelong Concert Band Youth and Senior Bands.

Sunday June 14th – In house concert 2pm at Robertson Hall, Geelong College Prep School, Minerva Road Newtown – featuring the Workshop, Youth and Senior Bands.

Saturday August 22nd – Senior Band will perform in the Victorian State Concert Band Championships, defending their Open A grade title. This will be held at the Wendoree Performing Arts Centre at a time to be confirmed.

Saturday August 29th – Geelong Concert Band presents A Show Stopping Concert at Costa Hall starting at 7:30pm and feature some of your favourite show tunes.

Saturday September 12th- the Senior Band will perform with the Grainger Wind Symphony at Essendon and Penleigh Grammar School. Time to be confirmed.

Saturday October 3rd – The Senior Band will perform as part of this years Concert of the Decade for the opening of Seniors Week at Costa Hall – times to be confirmed.

All GCB bands will return to normal rehearsals on Friday April 24th at the following times:

Workshop Band 4:30pm – 6:00pm
Youth Band 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Senior Band 8:00pm – 10:00pm

March 2009 Newsletter

Friday April 3rd will be the final rehearsal for all of the GCB bands. Rehearsals will recommence on Friday April 24th at the regular times for all three bands. We wish all of our members and their families a very happy Easter and look forward to seeing all members back on Friday April 24th.
