The Senior band will be competing in the National Championships in Melbourne on Easter Sunday, April 8 in the evening. Those Senior band members not playing in this championship can take term 1 off to enable Mark to rehearse with the band he will have on the day. For everyone else, please attend regular rehearsals! If you are in Melbourne over Easter, please come and support the band. More details to come ….

Welcome back to the GCB for 2012. Rehearsals for all three bands will restart this Friday, February 3 at the following times:

Workshop band 4:30-6:00
Youth band 6:00-8:00
Senior band 8:00-10:00

We are pleased to advise that Mark Irwin will conduct both the Youth and Senior bands for the first half of the year. Michael Wilding will continue to conduct the Workshop band in 2012.

Come along to the Geelong West Town Hall at 7:30pm on Saturday October 22nd where the Geelong Concert Band Workshop, Youth, Senior and Big Band’s will present an auditory tour of the world. Guest Compere Lachy Joyce will not only entertain you throughout the night but he will also be singing with the GCB Big Band. Tickets are available at the door from 6:30pm – ticket prices are Adults $15, Concession/Student $12, Children under 16 $10 and Group bookings of 10+ tickets $10 each.

All GCB Bands are now on holidays and there will be no rehearsals held on Friday April 8th. All bands, including the new Workshop Band, will return to rehearsal on Friday April 29th. Have a safe Easter break.

On FRIDAY MARCH 4th, Youth and Senior Band’s will be rehearsing at the Keith Humble Centre, Geelong College Senior School, Aphrasia Street, Newtown.

The Geelong Concert Youth and Senior Band will present an Easter Concert on Saturday April 2nd at Robertson Hall, Geelong College Preparatory School (enter off Minerva Road), Newtown starting at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door – Adults $8, Concession/Student $5. We will also be running an Easter Raffle on this evening, so bring along some loose change for your chance to win a fantastic prize. Tickets for the raffle will only be sold on the night of the concert and you must be there to win your prize.

Fees for the Geelong Concert Band are based on a flat term rate of $37 per term for Youth and Senior Band members and $85 per term for Workshop Band members (from term 2). You can pay your fees via direct debit – check your newsletter for banking information.

The current Workshop Band members will move to the Youth band from 2011 and we will begin the year with a new Workshop Band. If you would like to learn to play any of the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Bass Guitar or Percussion, please come along to our information evening on Wednesday December 8th at 7:00pm at Robertson Hall, Geelong College Prep School (enter off Minerva Rd). On this evening you will hear a demonstration of the instruments listed above as well as have the opportunity to try them all out to see what suits you best. Rehearsals will be held at Costa Hall on Saturday afternoon at the following times:

Youth Band 12:15 – 1:30

Workshop Band 1:15 – 2:15

Youth Stage Band 2:15-3:00

Senior Ensembles 2:50-3:40

Senior Band 3:30-5:00

Youth Band and Workshop Band will need to report at night to the green room at 6:30pm. Senior Band members are asked to be at Costa Hall for the start of the concert at 7:30pm.
